"Barocco Palermitano"

Most of our production falls in this category since the artisan masters at Tre Erre get inspiration for these designs from the local traditions of our city of Palermo. Little known by most people, this decorative style is greatly valued by experts in the field of Sicilian ceramics. It is born in Palermo at the end of the 16th century and a large number of ceramic objects were produced in this style, which enjoyed great success until the end of the 17th century. Subsequently, the local production of ceramics in Palermo came to an end when the new generation of young apprentices was lured out of the musty artisan workshops into other trades.
Recurring themes in this decorative style are:
1) The grape leaf. This is normally painted yellow or dark yellow on a green or blue background, although a few examples exist where a blue leaf is painted on a dark yellow background. The grape leaves can be used in a variety of different arrangements, either at the corners of the composition, or forming spiral movement, or merged with other decorative elements in a heart-shaped motif.
2) The stylised daisy. Often painted in blue and sometime in yellow or dark yellow. The daisy is often painted in the centre of a geometrical shape, such as a diamond or a circle; in the latter case it is normally accompanied by another common decorative element, the Acanthus leaf.
3) The Acanthus leaf is normally painted in blue or dark yellow and is normally arranged at the corner of the composition.
